school year! join us today!

Lessons begin August 22nd, 2022

Schedule

Our intensive academic program welcomes students year-round and remains flexible to accommodate the progress of each individual student.

If you are new to EMC, please schedule a FREE MATH EVALUATION before registering to a Circle.

* All times listed are in PST.

** Tuition fees are listed for an average month of 4 weeks. EMC bills only for the lessons held, therefore tuition will vary each month according to the number of lessons held in that particular month, calculated based on the weekly cost of each circle. Please refer to the Academic Year Programs page for the weekly cost of each circle.

If you can’t find suitable time for you please contact us. We can form new groups on demand.

Fun Math

The courses build foundational skills (e.g. number sense, skip counting, geometry) and are designed to prepare kindergarteners and first-graders for Beast Academy books.

What to Expect

  • Instruction starts in September, runs for 38 weeks, and ends in June. Students can join the program at any time.

  • Groups of 4-6 students meet online once a week for 55 minutes.

  • Lessons are conducted in a relaxed, conversational manner, rather than the traditional one-way lecture format, and consist of games and puzzles that develop critical thinking, logical reasoning, spatial reasoning, and arithmetic skills.

  • EMC provides all required classwork and homework materials in PDF form via Google Classroom. We also provide a list of recommended supplemental resources, such as workbooks and physical manipulatives, for those who want more!

  • Older students, attending school grade 2 and higher, can request access to a discounted EMC-administered Beast Academy online account, which they can use to study independently.

Competition Math

* All times listed are in PST.

** The tuition fees are for the entire summer session.

If you can’t find suitable time for you please contact us. We can form new groups on demand.

Multiple Flexible Options

If none of our existing programs work for your child, but you have an idea how we can help them achieve their math goals, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Here are some of the ways in which our programs can be customized:

Private Lessons

One-on-one instruction is available to students who need extra attention before they are placed into one of EMC program levels or groups. Private lessons still cover the EMC curriculum, customized to meet our students where they are and get them where they need to be.

Instruction can start at any date and continue for as long as needed. Lesson plan, schedule and payment plan will be advised after the student completes a free evaluation. Please contact us for more information.

Summer Intensive

This summer program covers 38 weeks worth of EMC curriculum in just 7 weeks. Students take this course to either strengthen existing skills or accelerate new learning. It’s great for students who may have missed some classes or struggled during the year and need a review. It’s also perfect for advanced students, who feel that they are ready to accelerate at a faster pace or skip a level. The latter would need a recommendation from an EMC instructor in order to join the program. Please contact us if you think your student qualifies.

Math Events & Group Lessons

Thinking about hosting a math event at your school, home, or club? Our instructors can help you conduct fun math lessons at various community events. We can also accommodate existing groups of students, who want to learn together. Instruction can take place in-person or online. Please contact us for more information and ideas!

Instructor Training

We offer training sessions for instructors, tutors, and parents who homeschool their children and seek guidance. This is also great for teachers who are interested in teaching at EMC! Please contact us to learn more.

EMC workshops expose students to the non-standard challenges of math competitions in an informal, supportive, small-group environment.  Our workshops are designed to train mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and to practice those skills in a ‘controlled stress’ environment.

Please visit the Programs: Math Competitions page to learn more about our competition prep workshops.

Parent Education

Parent Education talks: Making Math Engaging and Fun at Home.
Join us on Wednesday, August 10th, 6PM (PDT), 2022 (on Zoom)

Anna Margolis, director of the math school EMC, recently led a successful lecture for teachers about how to hold engaging lessons. Now she wants to share her experience with parents: talk about ways to help kids learn math, hold their attention, find interesting problems, and keep up motivation. These ideas apply to parenting in general and  touch on more than just math.

How to help so that kids do everything on their own? How to ask the right kind of questions, to create a space where kids are comfortable thinking and creating independently?

The meeting will be held over Zoom on August 10th at 18:00 PST
Please register and submit aheadof time, any questions that you would be interested to discuss
Zoom link to participate will be emailed to everyone a few days prior.
