Rotational Symmetry: Simple Concept

Rotational symmetry happens when a shape looks exactly the same even after being turned partway around. Imagine spinning a pinwheel or a star—if it looks the same before finishing a full spin, it has rotational symmetry! This means the shape can be rotated by a certain amount and still match its original position. Many shapes like stars, flowers, and windmills have this special symmetry.

Understanding rotational symmetry helps us see patterns and balance in shapes all around us. When we remove a reference point, we realize that the turned version and the original look identical! This makes math more visual and fun. Try turning different shapes—like triangles, rectangles, and stars—to see which ones look the same when rotated. You’ll be surprised how often symmetry appears in everyday life!
