Competition Math Classes

In this course students will learn and practice problem solving strategies essential for success at various math competitions in a no pressure enviroment.

Perfect for anyone looking to prepare for a competition, but also for anyone looking to expand logical reasoning skills and gain confidence.  Kids are exposed to a multitude of approaches to solving non standard problems and stop being afraid of non-trivial tasks!

Lessons do not follow the traditional one-way lecture format.  The time in class is spent with interactive problem solving, friendly debate, independednt practice and fun brain teasers.

We don't strive to make children champions overnight.  We provide a solid foundation with a goal to motivate, to involve, to gain exposure to different styles of questioning, strategies for solving, and applying various reasoning skills. You do not have to be a math olympian, but many of our students are inspired to participate in competitions later in the year!

Noetic Learning Math Contest

The Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC) is a semiannual problem-solving contest for elementary and middle school students. The contest is for students in grades 2-8. The contest is designed to promote students' problem-solving skills and math interest.

In the Spring 2022 NOETIC Competition, almost 100 of our students (from around 300 total) participated as part of the EMC team.

The idea of math competitions makes my son nervous. We signed up for the Math Competition class not for math olympiads, but because this is a comprehensive program that helps keep math skills sharp throughout the summer. (He felt the thrill of it, too, we were happy with the program.

I will practice in the summer and will get ahead of everyone at school," - my son told me. And that's what happened last year. Being the first is important for him. And it's important to me that he is motivated and learning more. Two months of Competitive Math classes with EMC turned out to be a great idea.

Sara Wanderburg

Wanted to let you know that we recently got back M’s Math Kangaroo results for 2022 and we were very excited for the results. We wanted to let you know that he placed 4th overall for National Rank and 4th for the State of California rank. We are thankful that we found Engaging Math Circles as think M. has thrived in the class."

Sincerely, M.s mom

I like that summer programs differ from the regular ones, makes it feel like holidays)My daughter Dana (10 years) took both summer programs. Fun Math is more for fun, Competitive Math - a bit more serious, we liked both. The classes met twice a week - good rhythm. My son (6 years) will try the EMC summer program this year. But classes once a week is enough for him, so we are choosing just one program.
