In this course students will learn and practice problem solving strategies essential for success at various math competitions in a no pressure enviroment.
Perfect for anyone looking to prepare for a competition, but also for anyone looking to expand logical reasoning skills and gain confidence. Kids are exposed to a multitude of approaches to solving non standard problems and stop being afraid of non-trivial tasks!
Lessons do not follow the traditional one-way lecture format. The time in class is spent with interactive problem solving, friendly debate, independednt practice and fun brain teasers.
We don't strive to make children champions overnight. We provide a solid foundation with a goal to motivate, to involve, to gain exposure to different styles of questioning, strategies for solving, and applying various reasoning skills. You do not have to be a math olympian, but many of our students are inspired to participate in competitions later in the year!
Groups of 4-6 students meet online once a week for 90 minutes.
Sold in monthly blocks of 3-4 workshops depending on the month. Easy make-up schedule.
20% discount with purchase of full year available to all.
Monthly Sessions. Choose Friday, Saturday, or Sunday weekly classes.

EMC workshops are based on the principle of 'reverse classes':
Prior to the workshop students receive a unique full length practice test designed by our teachers in the style of the nearest upcoming competition.
Students complete the problems and come to class armed with questions. We ask parents not to help their kids with these problems (as opposed to regular homework). It’s crucial that the children read and attempt the problems on their own. This allows them to learn that solving complex problems takes time, and it’s NORMAL if the answer is not immediately obvious. Making mistakes and not getting the answer right away is NORMAL.
As the experience of past years has taught us, 1.5 hours fly by very quickly.
For the first 40 minutes we analyze take-home problems (the ones that caused difficulties).
Then, for the next half hour, we study completely new problems, different methods for solving them, and discuss strategies.
In the final 20 minutes, we arrange a mini-test simulation: the teacher sets a timer, gives 3-4 problems, and has the children submit their answers independently.
Low-stakes test: the cost of making a mistake is small, and the level of stress is minimal, yet the situation still simulates competition conditions. This is crucial – it allows students to get used to working under time restrictions, and teaches them to be ready and clear-headed at an important moment.
Move away from drills and mechanical algorithms; instead, learn how to solve challenging problems that often have an elegant solution!
Expose your student to a variety of non-standard, non-trivial puzzles and problems often not taught in schools.
Learn test-taking strategies that can be applied to all tests!
Meet other like-minded students who enjoy learning math!
An international math competition open to all students in grades 1 - 12 but particularly popular among elementary school students, the Math Kangaroo offers a variety of non-standard problems that serve as a great introduction to the world of math competitions for young students
The Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC) is a semiannual problem-solving contest for elementary and middle school students. The contest is for students in grades 2-8. The contest is designed to promote students' problem-solving skills and math interest.
In the Spring 2022 NOETIC Competition, almost 100 of our students (from around 300 total) participated as part of the EMC team.
Each EMC team from 2nd to 4th grade has several students that scored 100%.
27 of our students are National Honor Roll medalists, joinng the top 10% of students from all over the USA who participated in the competition this year!
50 of our students made it into the top 50%

Our weekly Math Competition Preparation Workshops begin on September 16th, 2022 and will run through April 16th, 2023. We will focus on NOETIC and Math Kangaroo Competitions, but students participating in ANY type of math olympiad, or simply wanting to get more practice with non-standard problem solving will benefit from the program.
If your student is interested in participating and/or preparing for other math competition please contact us to discuss.
